How I escaped a traffic violation

If you are a health care professional or in the dental industry, make sure you always wear your scrubs to and from work.  The other day as I was driving home from work, I did not notice the cop on the motorbike hiding in the center divider on Bastanchury Rd.  For all those who are familiar with the city of Fullerton, CA, Bastanchury Rd. is almost like a freeway, at 50 MPH you cannot go wrong.  Well I was wrong, this is the second time in my 11 years driving that I was stopped by a cop.  I pulled into a residential street and awaited my sentence.  When the cop approached me, I was relieved to see that he was a young one, he was very polite and did not hound me on how fast I was going.  My son was in the car, so I felt bad because I did not want him to think that I was a reckless driver.  This kind cop noticed I was in uniform, and with my dosimeter ( x- still recording badge) still on, he became even friendlier.  He acknowledged the fact that I must have had a long day at work and that I was probably tired and could not wait until I got home.  I was really quiet and answered when I was spoken to, I tried not to piss him off.  Well, I got lucky, he worned me about my speed and just gave me a fix it ticket fot not beeing current on my proof of insurance.  I truly believe that being in uniform saved my tail.

CeFiore…..Thank you, but not for me

Lately I have been seeing lots of these CeFiore Italian frozen yogurt parlors, one of them opened up right next to my favorite gelato place downtown.  Last night while walking throught the crowds of busy Main street in Huntington Beach, I decided to pop in and taste this new treat.  I went ahead and tasted the chocolate flavor, let me tell you, it is not any different than Golden Spoon Yogurt.  This is an insult to the Italian culture, I had to ask the young lady behind the counter if they were serious about the whole Italian thing, she said that it was….total Italian.  I am so sorry people, but we do not have frozen yogurt in Italy, take it from me I lived there for many years.  We are gelato makers, not non-fat yogurt lovers, and what’s the deal with all those toppings?  Italy is not known for Fruity Pebbles and Pineapples, let alone Oreao Cookies.  Last time I checked, Oreo Cookies were an American thing.  Please! Give me a break, spear yourself the cash and head to Golden Spoon, you will thank me later, it is definitely 50% cheaper than this farce they make out to be enchanted.  O yeah, by the way Italians don’t do Green Tea’s and Acai Berry, seems to me we have some Asian flair.  Don’t be fooled, this is not Italian Yogurt, it is ordinary frozen yogurt with a high price tag!

Autism, the bitter truth

I am a firm believer that Autism is linked with childhood vaccination.  I have done lots of research on this topic only because I have a two year old who has not yet received his MMR’s (measels, mumps and rubella).  This is something that renders me really anxious, I am deathly terrified of exposing my son to these vaccines that can potentially harm him in the long run. It would be gut wrenching to see this healthy, happy and smart little guy all of a sudden, retrude into a world where nothing makes sense to us outsiders.  I recently spoke to one of my patients who has a 25 year old autistic daughter, she said that 12 hours after the D-Tap vaccine was administered, she noticed a noticeable change in behavior with her daughter.  I am a maxillofacial x-ray technologist, I see plenty of Autistic kids, many of them are mild cases, however, the handfull of severe autistic kids are very sad to watch and the parents even worse.  I believe that these children/young adults are very smart, however, they lack the skills of everyday common occurances and need help for life.  If science can come up with some sort of DNA gene detection test, we can fully vaccinate our children without any doubts.  As a parent I am caught in the middle by not vaccinating my child, I am exposing him to potentially life threattening viruses and if I do decide to vaccinate him, I am taking a gamble with exposing him to Autism.  These my friends are things your health care provider will not discuss with you, educate yourself, do some research.

Britney puffs before Jayden

There is a really unclassy photo of Britney smoking infront of son Jayden James, in this weeks entertainment pics on MSN ( shame on you paparazzi for using telephoto lenses).  Not good.  For someone who just got more visitation rights with the kids, I would be walking on a fairly thin line just to prove myself to the court.  I just want to add that I am not taking this out on Brit, she is a person who suffers from some sort of illness, maybe depression, however, this is to all the parents who smoke infron of their children, SHAME ON YOU! YOU UNCLASSY AIR POLLUTORS WHO DON’T GIVE A FLYING PIG ABOUT YOUR KIN! Honestly who cares what you do to your health, but come on second hand smoke is the deadliest for the lungs, even worse when you do it infront of children.  I think Brit needs extra guidence, I know she is older and a mother of two, but somewhere along the line, something went horribly wrong.  I still blame the paparazzi, those low lives can drive anyone insane, but honestly I hope this poor victim of circumstance can get the help she needs, because not only is smoking bad for her but just the act of smoking infront of children carries a bad rap.

Downtown Disney delight

Last night I took the little guy to Disneyland, I thought that Friday night would be a better option than Saturday, and it definitely was.  We are annual passholders, so dining at Disneyland is hardly ever an option mostly because their food is simply not that good and also because it is way overpriced, which is the case with many theme parks.  I don’t pay much attention to the price as much as I do to the quality, so last night I decided to try the La Brea bakery and restaurant found Downtown Disney, ( you do not have to enter the park for this) for dinner, their bread is definitely good so I hoped for the best.  I opted for the al fresco dining and it turned out pretty pleasant and as far as our food….excellent.  On the menu you can find a variety of different dishes, from salads to seared salmon, hamburgers, sandwiches and the best of all, their grilled panini’s. A panino is basically a grilled sandwich italian style.  I chose a Reuben sandwich which is Pastramy, sour kraut, onions and cheese all layered together for a mouth watering treat, my date went guido on me and selected the Autostrada Panino, which in Italian means freeway ( I am guessing because it’s jam packed with coldcuts just like a freeway).  The Autostrada is put together with Mortadella, Salami, Ham, Provolone cheese and an olive spread and then grilled to perfection in two slices of  sourdough bread……..delizioso.  Honestly if you have extra cash to spear on a boring day, head on over to Downtown Disney, you definitely cannot miss this food.  Simple but good, that is how food should be, the price tag is a little over the ordinary, however, two sandwiches (which include your choice of a garden mixed salad or fries) a kids meal and one fountain drink put us at $39.oo, not bad, and with that a nice al fresco ambiance preferably at twilight, even better.

Denise Richards, it’s really not that complicated

I have seen it all, really, these reality shows are just not working out anymore. What is so complicated about Denise’s life? Someone please tell me.  She married Charlie Sheen, first mistake, she stole her best friends husband, second mistake and to top it all off she is a bad actress. So really, it’s not complicated at all, just a waste of time. The thing that gets me the most of this show, is the fact that her two young children are publicly displayed and pretty much raised by her dad. I have not seen this woman on any real movie of substance, just a few things here and there, so why the cameras following her around?  What can this person possibly bring to anyone’s life, so much to give her her own reality show?  I surely would not want to look up to this self- proclaimed b****, husband stealer, non creative kind of individual.   I have no respect for people who have nothing to bring to the public, but chaos, many of our lives are complicated as is why make them even more so by watching this uncomplicated boob tube show.  I would like to think that I spend most of my time trying to make every minute of my life worthwhile, for myself, for others and mostly for my child.  If your life is so complicated Denise, then you should try to uncomplicate it and stay out of the public eye until you have done so.  For all you reality show lovers out there, stick with Big Brother, at least these are real people trying to strategically befriending each other to win the grand cash prize.  Until next time, leave the complications to Denise

Lee’s Sandwich Mania

Here we go again, it is time for another review, this time the winner is Lee’s Sandwiches on Harbor and Orangethorpe.  If you live around the Fullerton and Westminster area then you are no stranger to this Vietnamese sandwich joint.  Let me tell you, this place has so many chains throughout the OC and beyond, so you might do an internet search for the closest to you.  Lee’s is a very clean (that is really important to me) establishment, with its’ contemporary design and open seating space, it is very pleasing to the eye.  My first visit was a few years back, when they first opened, their sandwiches used to cost $ 1.25, yeah that was a deal.  These sandwiches are made with a fresh, crispy, yummy baguette, then meat of your choice is accompanied with pickled sliced carrots, jalapenos, jicama and cilantro.  These sandwiches are truly yummy, they definitley have a Vietnamese flair to them, however, for the traditional individual, they do offer traditional cold cuts, different kinds of bread, a full gelato bar service and many flavors of smoothies, italian ice and lets not forget the Boba.  Lee’s also sell their freshly baked baguettes everyday for just a dollar, this is cheaper than any grocery store around, they also sell day old bread for .50 cents.  If you are on a budget, head on over, a drink and a sandwich will cost you less than $5.00 (depending on what sandwich you order).  If you are on your way to the beach, (Huntington Beach), pick up a few sandwiches for lunch, it will definitely be cheaper than Subway.

When there is no one left to talk about, but Madonna

madonna-divorce.jpg

Here I go again with my tabloid hating chatter, why does the media set out to make Hollywood persona’s lives a living hell?  Why can’t we accept the fact that Madonna and  Guy have been married for 7 years and are trying to make their relationship work?  Does Madonna have to have slept with A-Rod just because she goes to his games? What happened to people just being friends, there always has to be a nasty story behind every daily happening in Hollyweird.  Honestly I truly feel bad for these people, the worst part is that their kids, Lourdes and Rocco, are the ones who are suffering or will be suffering thanks to the mass media trying to make a buck.  I am sure that if Madonna did cheat on Guy, he would not be with her right now, and if she did cheat on him then he’s the fool for still hanging around.  Whatever the case may be, I am sure they would like to be left alone.  Divorce is a very common and unfortunate thing, hopefully they can work things out if they are having troubles, however, that is something that we should not be salivating at the mouth to see, it should remain private just like you and I would like those personal matters to be.  I truly believe that the reason for
Hollywood divorces is based, for the most part, on celebrities being in the public eye. It just doesn’t work, your dirty laundry is hanging about for everyone to see and if there were a chance to fix things rest assured, the paparazzi is there to make sure that it doesn’t work out.

Frati, the best gelato in town!

For all you locals out there, today another Fullerton local hangout review. Frati gelato cafe, a great little coffe and gelato bar in the heart of Downtown Fullerton. I spotted this place last year just by walking by, it was not open yet, however, I new it was something to try. Being Italian and a gelato lover, I had to give this place a try. People let me tell you, this is the best gelato I have ever tasted, it is authentic, made by a real Italian who lived in Italy. Anthony the propriator, is a friendly and jolly guy, he devotes every spare minute in creating new and exciting flavors, my favorite : Panna Cotta. Panna Cotta is a rich and creamy concoction of cream and milk churned into a decadent treat, add some coffe flavored gelato to that, and feel your taste buds water. I was nervous at first because here in the U.S. people (mostly Californians) are so weight concious, that maybe this place would just flop, to my surprise it actually turned out to be a hit. Honestly, I think this place is far better than Cold Stones, which in my opinion is extra loaded with fat. So if you are in town, try Frati Gelato on Commonwealth and Harbor, you will not be disappointed.

Dark Night rakes in the cash, but is Batman done for good.

The numbers are in, $ 158.3 million, that my friends is an all time breaking record for grand opening weekend at the box office.  The truth is, had Heath Ledger not died, this movie would have attracted half as many people due to the fact that comic heros (Batman) have been so played out.  No doubt Ledger was a great actor and his portrayal of the Joker amazing, pretty morbid if you ask me, however, we all want to see those last great performances don’t we.   It is actually pretty distorted to watch this movie, and in the back of my mind thinking that part of the reason this poor guy was suffering from insomnia was due to the portrayal of his role. I would be pretty freaked out as well if I had to play the Joker, not to mention wear that hidious clown makeup.  If you notice, every Batman movie out there has only one to two villians at a time, does that mean we are destined to see more Batman flicks in the future?  I don’t think I can handle it.  If I had my pick on the whole actor/Batman part I would definitely stick with Clooney.  George is a Batman all around, I don’t care much for Robin, he seems too childish for me.  As far is Ledger is concerned, it saddens me to know that he has passed, at least his legacy remains in his daughter and brought millions in revenue.  The last one is a sarcastic remark!
