When our economic status takes a toll on our mental health

Published by michelel at 11:22 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

There is a fine line between sanity and mental health issues, sometimes a minimal situation, stress, crisis or chemical imbalance can trigger red flags in the brain.  The overall present economic crisis can lead certain individuals over the edge of reason, leading not only to irrational thinking but to self destruction. Many people are living paycheck to paycheck, and with our economic financial state on the verge of a nationwide depression, loose cannons are amidst the crowds. Financial instability is a major cause of depression, it has lead many people to take their own life, it has also caused many failed relationships, loss of jobs due t the lack of concentration.  Ultimately it is depression that redefines mental health; it is the base for potential life altering problems. The brain is a powerful organ, but like any other organ it can succumb to illness, not only is the state of our economy in bad shape, so is our employment not to mention mortgages and general cost of living including food. This is the biggest dark cloud that has settled over our Nation, any individual who fears for their wellbeing and that of their families can and probably will experience mental issues, severe depression, and anxiety. Any additional stress can be too much to handle and affect an individual’s mind, if there is not any outlet or positive outlook, the situation can get worse not to mention fatal. It is in these situations that one might seek help, psychiatric evaluation, admitting that they have mental problems and not being afraid to ask a close family member, spouse or friend for help.  A positive outlook is always a good idea and letting someone else take over your finances for a short period would be a good stress reliever.  Ultimately what comes up must come down and vice versa, it is a cycle that almost everything in life must take, including our economic state and our mental health.
